Ngombe 'Ngulu' Executioners Sword on removable stand.
Approximate Size: 27" H x 8" W
The Ngulu sword is known as an “executioner’s sword”, primarily used around Congo. Manufactured by the Ngombe tribe, the Ngulu was traded to many different tribes including the Bangala (Ngala) of the Mongo people.
In the precolonial days swords of these types were used to execute slaves and prisoners of war during ceremonies held at the funeral of prominent people, such as chiefs, war leaders and blacksmiths. Later animals served as substitutes for human victims.
Approximate size: 25" H not including removable base.
