November 16th 1964 Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston Phantom Fight Ticket (Boston Garden).

2nd Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Liston fight scheduled to be held at the Boston Garden on November 16, 1964. This would be a re-match of their controversial fight of 9 months earlier in which Ali won the World Heavyweight Championship Title in a major upset by a TKO when Liston failed to answer the bell for the 7th round. This fight would not be as 3 days before the scheduled bout Ali underwent emergency surgery for a strangulated hernia. The bout would need to be delayed by six months and be eventually fought in Lewiston, Maine due to legal issues.
Muhammad Ali vs. Sonny Lyston known as ‘the fight that was never fought’ as Boston City Council feared a riot as the challenger was accused of ties to organized crime and the young champion became the object of political unrest after converting to Islam. The fight that was never fought.
